Profile
Carmen Meinert is a research fellow with the Institute of Advanced Study in the Humanities in Essen and had previously been a researcher at Beijing University, Sichuan University in Chengdu and the University of Hamburg. Since 2008 she is lecturer in East Asian Studies at Ruhr University Bochum where she also had been Interim Professor of East Asian Religions from 2010 to 2011. In addition she is an associate member of both the Center for Buddhist Studies and the Center for Tantric Studies in Hamburg since 2007.
During the course of her fellowship she will investigate the relationship between politics and religion between the 8th and 11th century in Central Asia, Tibet and Song China based on a set of Buddhist texts that were transmitted through that region in that time.
